What is sports therapy and what can they help?

Often people question the role of a sports therapist and sports massage therapist. This article will look to clear up some of that confusion and shed some light on the role of both these specialities.

Sports massage therapists

Starting with sports massage, people often have misconceptions and believe it is just a “normal massage but harder” while often practitioners will use high pressure on certain areas it is not as simple as all that. Sports massage has specific benefits in order to aid with rehabilitation and recovery in individuals with long term or acute injuries.

Based on the evidence available, we understand that sports massage can be an important part of a patient’s journey to improved range of movement, pain reduction, and ultimately greater fulfilment in life. Informed assessments of a patient’s injury needs are carried out to ensure a targeted specific treatment. Massage can provide a window of opportunity for patient’s to take responsibility for their own health improvements.
