How to avoid injury this ski season!
The ski season is well upon us now and soon myself and, fellow Chiropractor at Wimborne Wellness Centre, Sophie will be heading to slopes for what we hope will be some amazing ski conditions. However as I’m sure you’re aware, things can go wrong very quickly when bombing down a mountain, so here is our guide for getting fit for the ski season and how to avoid injuries when on the slopes.
Whether you’re new to the sport or a highly competent skier/ snowboarder it’s important to build up your fitness levels. Skiing requires a high level of fitness at any level and fatigue is one of the most common causes of injury with most of these injuries happening in the afternoon when muscles are fatiguing and the slopes are usually in their worst condition. When it comes to ski injuries, the most common are broken bones or ligament injuries, both have a lengthy recovery time with ACL knee injuries being the most commonly noted in the literature.
You can reduce the chance of fatigue related injuries by performing an exercise programme before your holiday. Skiing involves a combination of skills, including strength, endurance, co-ordination and mobility. All of which our partners at E-motion fitness hub will be able to help you with, if you have an enquiry please call Jack and James on 07900 535256, they will also be offering £30 off your first package, just quote code £SKI30.
You will want to make sure you are in the best possible shape for you ski trip and this involves sorting any niggles or aches that may be affecting you, from low back pain to plantar fasciitis, they can all ultimately impact your enjoyment on the mountain. This is where our Chiropractors and Sports Massage Therapists are able to help you, making sure you get the most from your ski holiday.
Finally on your return, these holidays can take their toll on your body and there are a number of overuse injuries and conditions that come from skiing/ snowboarding. So make sure you book in to see one of our healthcare specialists who can help you get back to your best as soon as possible.
